Ever Heard of May Madness? It™s On for the Short Track Super Series

Written by Chris Moore

MILLSBORO, DE Ever heard of May Madness? Get ready to.

After running three races in two weekends during the month of March, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco had a relatively calm month of April. Only the Diamond State 50™ at Charlie Cathell™s Delaware International Speedway (Delmar, Del.) was contested.

That all changes as the calendar flips to May.

The STSS prepares for a busy month, that includes four races in three different states in both the North and South Regions.

The Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply North Region kicks off at Accord (N.Y.) Speedway for the eighth running of the Land Hoe Maintenance Battle of the Bullring™ on Tuesday, May 11. The Modifieds will race 50-laps for $5,440-to-win with the 44™ in memory of Tom Perrego.

The Precision Hydraulic & Oil North Region for the Crate 602 Sportsman will join the Modifieds at the quarter-mile speedway for their series opener in a 25-lap, $1,500-to-win feature.

A May 12 rain date is in place for the Accord event.

The following week, on Tuesday, May 18, the STSS North Region Modifieds head to Dundee, N.Y., for the Outlaw Showdown™ at Tyler Siri™s Outlaw Speedway in search of the $5,000-plus payday to the 50-lap winner.

The STSS returns to both Accord Speedway and Outlaw Speedway for the first time since 2019, after losing the 2020 dates to New York State COVID-19 restrictions.

On Tuesday, May 25, the STSS heads south for Round No. 5 of the Velocita-USA South Region presented by Design for Vision and Sunglass Central. The STSS returns to New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway for the Dirty Jersey™ at the D-shaped, three-eighths mile speedway, handing out another $5,000-plus winner™s share.

The Belmont™s Garage South Region Crate 602 Sportsman will join the Modifieds for a 25-lap, $1,500-to-win feature, for their fourth round on the series in 2021.

Memorial Day weekend, the STSS treks back north for the Clash at the Can™ at Penn Can Speedway to conclude a busy month on Sunday, May 30. After crowning a champion at last years King of the Can,™ the STSS heads back to the Susquehanna, Pa., facility for Round No. 3 of the Hurlock Auto & Speed North Region.
