Short Track Super Series
Penn Can Speedway Set for Short Track Super Series Clash at the Can™ Sunday, May 30
SUSQUEHANNA, PA One of the original venues to host a Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco event in the 2014 inaugural season, Penn Can Speedway returned to the schedule last September after an extended absence.
Under the leadership of the Folk family, Penn Can has experienced a resurgence in the past two seasons, culminating with the Short Track Super Series King of the Can™ last September.
On Sunday, May 30, the STSS Hurlock Auto & Speed North Region returns to the one-third-mile oval on the Keystone State side of the Pennsylvania/New York border for a 50-lap event offering $5,000 minimum to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag plus bonuses.
The Penn Can Clash at the Can™ is the third round of the $12,000 North Region championship battle.
Anthony Perrego opened the North Region season on May 11 at N.Y.™s Accord Speedway with a victory in the Battle of the Bullring 8™ honoring his late father, Tom.
This past Tuesday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., Perrego challenged eventual winner Steve Paine throughout the 50-lap distance before ultimately placing third.
With the victory and podium finish, Perrego leads the North Region title chase in pursuit of his first series championship.
Penn Can has hosted the Short Track Super Series twice in its history.
On Sept. 9, 2014, Danny Johnson won over Kevin Hartnett, Ryan Watt, Anthony Perrego and Jeff Strunk.
Last September, Stewart Friesen pulled off late-race heroics to win the King of the Can™ event over Andy Bachetti, Nick Rochinski, Matt Sheppard and Mike Gular.
For the May 30 event, pit gates open at 3 p.m. Grandstand gates unlock at 4 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6 p.m., with racing at 7 p.m.
