Getting Dirty in Jersey: New Egypt Speedway Hosts Short Track Super Series Dirty Jersey 8™ on Tuesday, May 24

Written by Chris Moore

NEW EGYPT, NJ The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco is prepared to œget dirty? in New Jersey.

New Egypt Speedway hosts the eighth running of the Dirty Jersey™ on Tuesday, May 24. The Garden State invasion serves as Round No. 3 of the Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply South Region for the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds.

The stars of the STSS look to conquer the unique, D-shaped oval in pursuit of a $5,000 payday, just part of a purse totaling more than $26,000.

With two podium finishes, Potsdam, N.Y.™s Michael Maresca currently paces the South Region standings by just five points over Ringoes, N.J.™s Ryan Godown. Savannah, N.Y., star Matt Sheppard rounds out the top three, 20 markers behind Maresca.

The first two editions of the Dirty Jersey™ were contested without STSS sanctioning (2013 & 2014), before the third affair took place in 15. Wurtsboro, N.Y.™s Danny Creeden was the winner seven years ago, topping Godown and Anthony Perrego for the second of his now five career STSS victories.

In 16, Frenchtown, N.J.™s Billy Pauch Jr. got his first taste of STSS glory, winning at his then home track over his father Billy Pauch Sr. and Keystone State driver Duane Howard two legends of the sport.

The 2017 Dirty Jersey™ was contested at neighboring Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park and returned to New Egypt in 19 after not occurring in the 18 calendar year.

The Dirty Jersey™ returned home to New Egypt for its sixth running in 19 and saw track regular David Van Horn Jr. grab his second career STSS victory. The Milford, N.J., resident topped fellow New Egypt regular Brandon Grosso and Pennsylvania™s Ryan Watt for the win.

After another hiatus in 2020, the Dirty Jersey 7™ took place in grand fashion last year. Middletown, N.Y.™s Anthony Perrego won a thrilling race over fellow New York State driver Mike Mahaney and Mooresville, N.C.™s Max McLaughlin. Perrego outdueled the other two in the final laps, after coming from his eighth starting position.

The Belmont™s Garage South Region for the Crate 602 Sportsman are on the racing card as well. Round No. 2 of the South Region is another 25-lap affair paying $1,500 to win.

New Egypt Speedway regular Nick Van Wickle won the region opener at Delaware International Speedway, topping defending South Region champion Joe Toth and Fleetwood, Pa.™s Dylan Swinehart.
