Practice Complete, Stage is Set for Speed Showcase™ Weekend at Port Royal

PORT ROYAL, PA Practice is complete for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco to kick off the Speed Showcase™ weekend at Port Royal Speedway.
The STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman took part in three rounds of practice before Bob Hilbert Sportswear Qualifying Night later tonight.
Savannah, N.Y.™s Matt Sheppard set the fastest for the STSS Modifieds in the first round of practice with a time of 18.528 seconds around the lightning fast half-mile.
Sheppard™s time was over two-tenths quicker than the second fastest driver, Pipersville, Pa.™s Danny Bouc.
Sprakers, N.Y.™s Stewart Friesen led the way in the second round of practice, with a time of 19.808 after the track slowed down significantly. Mooresville, N.C.™s Max McLaughlin was second quickest and Binghamton, N.Y.™s Darren Smith rounded out the top three.
Baldwinsville, N.Y.™s Jimmy Phelps was the quickest in the third and final set with a time of 21.543 seconds. Elizabethtown, N.Y.™s Mike Mahaney and Stewart Friesen were the three quickest.
In the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman timed hot laps, Penns Grove, N.J.™s Eric Kormann and Middletown, N.Y.™s Brian Krummel were the quickest in timed hot laps, locking themselves into the redraw for Saturday™s Ice Less LLC Speed Showcase 50.™
The New York State based Pro Stocks were on hand for practice laps in the morning session, they will have another round of practice again as part of Qualifying Night.
Racing begins tonight for the STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman with Bob Hilbert Sportswear Qualifying Night.
The STSS Modifieds take part in 20-lap qualifiers with the winner of each receiving $750 courtesy of Dirt Track Digest. Behrent™s Performance Warehouse has also added money to the top-five finishers in each Modified qualifier.
Belmont™s Garage presents the 15-lap qualifiers for the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, with the winner of each taking home $250.
The Weikert™s Livestock 410 Sprint Cars join the Friday affair as well for a full program, culminating in the 25-lap, $6,000-to-win Labor™s Day Classic makeup event.
For the October 14 event, all gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are slated to begin at 6:15 p.m. with racing to follow at 7 p.m.
Grandstand admission $25 for Adults and $10 for Students (ages 13-18). Kids 12 and Under get in FREE.
Pit admission is $35 (no license required).
The entire weekend will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv) as part of the annual subscription.
Port Royal Speedway is located two miles south of US Rt. 322 just off PA Rt. 75 in Port Royal. Pit entrance can be found on Fourth St., and General Admission on Sixth and Eighth St. Port Royal Speedway can be reached by phone at 717.527.2303.
