Back to Business: ‘Diamond State 50’ Set for May 16 at Delaware International

DELMAR, DE – Back to business.

After two outstanding Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Modified events to start 2023, Delaware International Speedway returns to racing on Tuesday, May 16 with the lucrative ‘Diamond State 50’ midweek special.

The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco makes its sole 2023 visit to the half-mile oval with both the STSS Modified and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman in competition.

STSS Modifieds race 50 laps for $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $500 to take the green flag in a points-paying race for the Rent Equip/Party Central South Region.

Belmont’s Garage South Region STSS Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman race 25 laps for $1,500 to the winner and $100 to take the green flag.

Also on the program: Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers in 12-lap features.

Matt Sheppard towed from Savannah, N.Y., for the March 31 Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Jake Marine Memorial opener, pocketing $8,500 after a last-lap pass of Mike Gular. Jordan Watson, Danny Bouc and Alex Yankowski completed the front five.

Gular, of Boyertown, Pa., turned the tide on April 12, making his own final-circuit pass of Watson. New York State invader David Schilling – who has attended both Delaware International events this season – placed third ahead of Ryan Godown and Matt Stangle.

Both STSS and NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series points are on the line for STSS Modified and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman teams at the ‘Diamond State 50’ event.

The ‘Diamond State 50’ carries a rain date of Wednesday, May 17.

One ticket booth will open at 3 p.m. for early pit admission. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:15 p.m.
