STSS Race Day at New Egypt: Dirty Jersey™ Storylines, Stars & Sleepers

Written by Chris Moore

NEW EGYPT, NJ Dirty Jersey race day!

The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco returns to New Egypt Speedway tonight for the Dirty Jersey 9.™

The stars of the STSS race to be the dirtiest™ of them all, with a $6,000 top prize up for grabs in the Garden State.

The D-Shaped facility plays host to Round No. 3 of the rain-smitten Rent Equip/Party Central South Region.

THE STORYLINES

The STSS South Region stars finally return to points racing action, following a near three-month hiatus since the last points race at Delaware International Speedway, won by Billy Pauch Jr on May 16.

The Frenchtown, N.J. native leads the South Region contingent into the Dirty Jersey™ an event he™s won before by 29 points over Neshanic Station, N.J.™s Matt Stangle.

The Rent Equip/Party Central South Region did compete in a non-point paying race last Tuesday (Aug. 1) when Boyertown, Pa.™s Mike Gular won the inaugural Berks County Brawl™ at Action Track USA.

THE STARS

Savannah, N.Y.™s Matt Sheppard currently sits third in the South Region standings, 37 markers behind Pauch Jr. Sheppard looks to repeat as the Dirty Jersey™ race winner, and gain ground on the Kid™s Kid™ in South Region points.

Ringoes, N.J.™s Ryan Godown has endured a difficult year thus far on the STSS tour. Godown however leads the Saturday night standings at New Egypt Speedway and will look to fend off the invaders and regain his STSS form.

2016 Dirty Jersey™ winner Billy Pauch Jr. heads into the 2023 edition leading the STSS South Region standings and second in New Egypt points. Pauch Jr. will look to firmly stake his claim as the man™ to hold off Matt Sheppard as the South Region rolls along at his home track.

THE SLEEPERS

The other driver in the top three in both STSS South Region points and New Egypt Speedway points? Matt Stangle continues to impress in 2023 and will look to remove his name from the sleepers list and onto a spot on the stars™ list soon.

Belle Mead, N.J.™s Justin Grosso has limited STSS experience with the Modifieds, but still has shown the speed and poise on Saturday nights at New Egypt to believe he has a chance to steal the show and best the stars of the South Region tour.

Boyertown, Pa.™s Ryan Watt quietly sits sixth in South Region standings heading into New Egypt Speedway. The Electric Company™ has seen a recent uptick in performance over the past month at his home tracks and will look to ride that momentum into another strong STSS outing.

ALSO IN ACTION

The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman join the racing card in Round No. 3 of the Belmont™s Garage South Region for a $1,500-to-win, 25-lap feature.

Upper Makefield, Pa.™s Joe Toth heads into his Saturday night home with a 54-point advantage over Middletown, Del.™s Tom Moore Jr. Spencertown, N.Y.™s Dylan Madsen rounds out the top three, 57 markers behind Toth.

ON THE HORIZON

The STSS continues in the month of August with the annual Blast at the Beach™ at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway.
