Spin to Win: Jamie Yannone Earns $2,500 Bethel “Run What You Brung” Win

SWAN LAKE, NY – From a spin, to win.

Jamie Yannone got turned around on the first lap of Sunday afternoon’s “Run What You Brung” at Bethel Motor Speedway. After 50 laps around the quarter-mile paved oval, he sat in Victory Lane.

The Newburgh, N.Y., native picked up $2,500 for his efforts driving his No. 21 Sportsman.

The “Run What You Brung” event was sponsored by Mobile Metals and promoted by Brett Deyo.

“I was frustrated when I got spun on the first lap,” Yannone said. “But I know this place. I just had to be patient.”

Patience ultimately did pay off for Yannone.

Several of the event’s top contenders, including Corey Lowitt, Tom Hindley and Jeff Tubbs were eliminated by early race incidents, while another pre-race favorite – Justin Holland – went to the pits with mechanical woes.

It came down to Jerry Curry and Yannone for the win.

Yannone stalked Curry for more than 30 laps, trying both the inside and outside.

Ultimately, the winning move came on lap 36 when Curry slipped wide entering turn three and Yannone darted to the inside.

“I knew he didn’t have many laps this year,” Yannone said. “I thought I might be able to get around the outside of him, but he left the bottom open that one lap.”

Curry’s strong drive ended five laps from the finish when he collided with a lapped car.

Yannone cruised to the win over Mark Pullen and Joe Buchanan, both in dirt cars.

Lowitt was the heat-race winner.

Kyle Welsch of Narrowsburg, N.Y., won the 25-lap Street Stock event, pocketing $1,000 for his efforts. Welsch outdistanced Glenn Cargain by 3.775 seconds. James Gannon, Daryl DeBetta and Peyton Arthofer completed the front five.

The Four Cylinder 25-lap event came down to the final corner. Tisha Curry of Swan Lake, N.Y., who led much of the event but at one point dropped to fourth – surged ahead of Richard Smith for the $500 triumph. Smith and Bradley Gruber completed the podium.

The event concluded the 2024 season at Bethel Motor Speedway.
